Two young children brought this injured Ibis to the field station. Joab cared for it and tried contacting a local vet to clip it's wing. The vet never showed and the bird was released to let nature take its course.
Today a student brought a Pelican back from the beach. She said that it was struggling in the break to breath and seemed like it was choking. We said that we were unable to do much for it at the station. She was tormented by the prospect of returning it to it's slow death.
It is a strange to cross the threshold of this natural cycle and physically inject yourself into a realm you may have no place. Or do you?
