be it researching and illustrating a bird book, learning to drive the panga, picking up various creatures while tide pooling...etc. Kino has been a huge catalyst for individual curiosity.

 

The Countdown

It's true,  The kids and I will be leaving in approximately ten days and heading back to Prescott.  Hailey and Colter will re-enroll in school I will till two garden plots and Claire will continue to speed up time in the universe.  With all of that comes the many things we will miss and are grateful for.  I will use these next days to try and pay attention to all of the the gifts our family has received before driving north into another reality.

Trying to slow it down  a little bit because it all seems so fast. Happy Birthday little one.

 

   

Alcatraz

 

This is the skin of a fin whale that is decomposing on Alcatraz Island.

Two Fin Whales washed up on Alcatraz in December. Due to no large predators on the island, these whales are decomposing without large portions being eaten and one of them is still mostly intact. kind of fascinating.

 

 

 

Alcatraz Island is normally a loud place with lots of bird activity.  This was an unusually quiet day with herons nesting in Cardons and Oyster Catchers protecting nests. So in honor of the day I focused more on the dead.
