Kino

Happy Halloween

 

Halloween on the sea of cortez.  Colter was with the Prescott College Student carving the other side of the pumpkin.

 

"Can we put this right here" Colter asked

"Well, how would he breathe if you cover up his nose?" Greg replied

"Breathe, he doesn't have  to breathe, it's a pumpkin!" Colter exclaimed

Colter was pretty focused on his mustache which caused him to speak without moving his lips...pretty hilarious. As for Claire, the moment she dons the mask, she takes on an authentic luchadore personality.  It may even be her calling.

 

Here in northern Mexico the Halloween tradition of the states has trickled down and is supported by many snowbirds handing out gobs of candy.  Most kids are transported from Old Kino to New Kiino to trick or treat in the backs of pick up trucks...I especially liked this ride. Hope everyone had a great Halloween

Friends

Ahhh. I must take a moment to appreciate our friends who travelled to Kino with small children to be with us.

We have been blessed with visitors at all the right times to break up the potential loneliness. Our kids get so excited about all of the new temporary additions to our family. ..having a break from eachother and the intoxication of other relationships.

   

  And for myself, I am always reminded of the importance of community.  The people we have strengthened relationships with that would pack their kids up in their cars, truck down across the border to share less than desirable quarters, endure kids rivalry, sippie cup wars and sand in the eyes..We love our friends.

And a special tribute to my personal superhero, driving with toddler in tow, solo, 7 months pregnant and (no offense) largely sooooo Super lotz.  muy especial.

We have found ourselves in a culinary bliss despite the Le Creuset I left at home and lack of half and half. (Thanks to friends we have a good supply of half and half until mid November)  For the first time in years we can dine  on fresh pescado and mariscos.

On the way back from this ponga trip we feasted on clams that Cosme had just dug.

  Despite his hesitation, he liked it and convinced the kids to try some too. Hailey elected to wait until we brought it home.  In the bag of clams was also a Pulpo that Cosme caught , Hailey held and I got to cook. 

 

 

I can't say that octopus is my favorite seafood delight.  But just keep the bags of clams and blue swimming crabs coming...oh and the bowls of avocados too.

"I think that one is enough" Hailey said

" Don't you think that two is better?" I asked

"If we have two then it won't be as special."  she replied

That settled it, we would not be hunting for more sea urchins this morning.  She has a point. Since we have been in Kino, the few things we brought with us have seemed more special.
